Frederick, MD – Today, the National Education Association (NEA) and Maryland State Education Association (MSEA) announced their endorsement of David Trone for Congress. MSEA represents 77,000 educators and support staff throughout Maryland’s public school system and is the largest labor union in the state.
“I am humbled and honored to receive the support of The Maryland State Education Association (MSEA),” said Congressman David Trone. “My mother was a grade school teacher and I watched her work tirelessly for her students. Teachers, educators and support staff are shaping the next generation in all the work that they do, and deserve a fierce advocate fighting for them in Washington. From championing higher salaries to more federal funding for schools, to expanded mental health services and beyond, we owe it to Maryland students and teachers so they can thrive and achieve their full potential.”
“David Trone has been a consistent and effective advocate for working families and a trusted partner in the work to ensure that every Maryland student—regardless of their background, race, or ZIP code—has access to strong public schools,” Becky Pringle, National Education Institute (NEA) President. “David supports expanding learning opportunities for students and has stood firm against vouchers that divert critical resources away from the public schools that serve 90% of Maryland students. We are excited to continue our work together to deliver results for students, educators, and communities across Maryland. The National Education Association is proud to recommend David Trone for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District.”
“David Trone is a tireless champion for Maryland’s schools, and what stands out most is his focus on both the challenges we’re facing today and the future we’re building toward,” said Paul Lemle, Maryland State Education Association President. “He understands that if we want stronger communities tomorrow, we have to invest in students, educators, and schools today. From expanding opportunities to delivering federal support, he’s always been a strong, consistent fighter for Maryland’s students and those who support them. At a time when so much is at stake in our communities, we need proven leadership that stands up and gets results—and that’s exactly what David does. David Trone has earned our vote.”
“In Frederick County, our schools are navigating new and evolving needs, and it matters to have federal partners who are willing to pick up the phone,” said Justin Heid, the Frederick County Teachers Association President. “David Trone has been there, listening to educators and staying engaged with what’s actually happening in our classrooms. He also understands that meaningful progress depends on strong leadership at every level, and has shown a clear commitment to supporting and electing leaders down the ballot who share these priorities. We’re proud to stand with David Trone for Congress, because he stands with us.”
“In Montgomery County, our students and educators are facing more complex challenges than ever, and we need leaders who act with urgency and purpose,” said Montgomery County Education Association President David Stein. “David Trone gets it. He’s always fought to deliver for our communities, and his leadership on mental health, including securing historic federal investments into our schools, is making a real difference for students and families. Just as importantly, he works directly with educators to make sure those solutions actually work in our classrooms. We need David Trone’s leadership back in Congress.”
“In Washington County, our students and educators face real challenges and need a stronger voice in Congress who understands that—a proven leader who fights for our students to have the schools and opportunities they deserve,” said Carol Mowen, Washington County Teachers Association President. “David Trone has taken the time to listen to our communities, to hear directly from educators, and to recognize that one-size-fits-all solutions don’t work for rural schools. He’s been a relentless advocate for expanding access, delivering resources, and making sure our students have what they need not just to get by, but to thrive.”
NEA represents 3 million members nationwide. MSEA, NEA’s Maryland affiliate, represents 77,000 educators and support staff in public school systems and classrooms throughout Maryland and is the largest labor union in the state. These recommendations come at the conclusion of an inclusive process highlighted by thorough candidate questionnaires and interviews conducted by local educators in each district with the candidates pursuing the recommendation.
David Trone served Maryland’s 6th District in Congress from 2019-2025. He is running for re-election in Congress to fight Trump and his MAGA agenda, protect our neighbors and our rights, and end the tariffs that are causing prices to keep going up for Maryland families.
