JUST RELEASED: Records Show McClain Delaney Burned Through Nearly $400,000 in Taxpayer Funds on Campaign-Style Communications After Drawing Primary Challenger

Frederick, MD – Newly released Q1 House expenditure records show that April McClain Delaney spent $379,909.81 on taxpayer-funded communications after David Trone entered Maryland’s 6th Congressional District race—just six months ago.

The timing is impossible to ignore. During the first three quarters of 2025, McClain Delaney spent just $33,874.37 on franked (taxpayer-funded) communications. After a major challenger emerged, her spending surged, catapulting her to the seventh-highest spender in the entire 435-member U.S. House on taxpayer-funded communications today.

The content of those communications raises additional questions. Taxpayers funded a radio ad promoting McClain Delaney’s campaign talking points, alongside taxpayer-funded digital advertisementsdigital videos, and a billboard campaign carrying similar political messages.

The spending surge comes as McClain Delaney’s campaign has publicly emphasized the importance of having the resources to communicate with voters. In February, campaign manager Nick London said McClain Delaney would have “the resources necessary to communicate her record of delivering for the Sixth District and standing up to Donald Trump.”

In 2024, the House Communications Standards Commission investigated and sanctioned a member of Congress for using official franked communications in a manner determined to be campaign-related.

“April McClain Delaney is one of the richest members of Congress in history, yet she is still siphoning off nearly $400,000 in taxpayer funds to try to get herself re-elected—now the 7th most in all of Congress since David entered the race. McClain Delaney may take all the corporate PAC and franking money in the world, but the bad news for her is that it’s going to take a lot more than that to cover up the fact that she voted 22% of the time with Donald Trump—nearly twice as often as any other Maryland Democrat—which is why she’ll lose anyway. No amount of taxpayer-funded self-promotion can erase that record,” said David Trone’s Communications Director Gaby Krevat.

For comparison, during the entire 2023-2024 election cycle—including his Senate campaign—Congressman David Trone spent just $194.74 on franked communications, ranking 414th in Congress.
