Five City Councilmembers From Western Maryland Endorse David Trone

Frederick, MD – Today, five City Councilmembers from Hagerstown and Cumberland enthusiastically announced their endorsement of David Trone for re-election to Congress. They include Tiara Burnett and Caroline Anderson, both Hagerstown City Councilmembers, Eugene Frazier and Rock Cioni of the Cumberland City Council, and former Cumberland Councilmember Laurie Marchini.

Elected officials from every county in the Sixth District have endorsed Trone, including Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater, Frederick County Council President Brad Young, At-Large Frederick County Councilmember Renee Knapp, Poolesville Town Commission President Jim Brown, Middletown Burgess John Miller, Smithsburg Mayor Donnie Souders, Boonsboro Mayor Howard Long, Keedysville Mayor Ken Lord, and Kitzmiller Mayor Robert Reckart, as well as IBEW Locals 24, 26, 307, and 1200, SMART International, and SMART Local 100.

“We are building a winning team with one mission: taking the fight back to Washington and standing up for our communities,” said Congressman David Trone. “I’m thrilled to have the support of leaders and unions from every county in the Sixth District. These folks are on the ground every day fighting for the people they represent. They know that we always show up and deliver, and they know I’ll be their champion in Washington.”

“As someone deeply committed to community involvement and making sure people’s voices lead to real change, I know the difference between just talking about values and actually living them,” said Hagerstown City Councilmember Tiara Burnett. “David Trone walks the walk. He consistently shows up for our community and works to turn community needs into visible, lasting improvements. His commitment to supporting the City of Hagerstown is real — and our community is stronger because of it. I’m proud to support David Trone for Congress.”

“As an immigrant myself and someone who is proud to come from a family of immigrants, I’m deeply disappointed by recent actions from the incumbent that show a willingness to compromise on our core values,” said Hagerstown City Councilmember Caroline Anderson. “Too many elected officials have sided with policies that harm immigrant communities. David Trone isn’t one of them. He has consistently stood up for justice and opportunity—even when it’s hard. I’m supporting David because he leads from his convictions and fights for the future our community deserves.”

“Western Maryland deserves leadership that understands our challenges and believes in our potential,” said Cumberland City Councilmember Eugene Frazier. “David Trone has consistently fought to bring real economic development to Cumberland and communities across our region—supporting investments that create jobs, strengthen small businesses, and revitalize our city. He knows that when Western Maryland succeeds, all of Maryland succeeds. When David first ran for Congress, one of the things I told him was: ‘Don’t forget us up here’, and he didn’t. I’m proud to support David because he shows up, he listens, and he delivers for Cumberland.”

“David Trone has always made Western Maryland a priority. Regardless of Party, David was in Allegany County maybe more than any Congressman in years,” said Cumberland City Councilmember Rock Cioni. “He shows up in Cumberland, listens to people, and works to make sure our communities are seen and heard. Representation means being present and delivering—not just making promises—and David has proven time and again that he’s there for our people. We need a leader who won’t leave our region behind, and that’s why I’m proud to support David Trone.”

“In Western Maryland, we expect our leaders to show up and stay focused on the communities they represent. Without a doubt, David Trone has been the most attentive Member of Congress to ever represent our communities,” said former Cumberland City Councilmember Laurie Marchini. “He listens to local leaders, answers when we call, and never loses sight of the families who make Allegany County and communities like ours strong. David understands that Western Maryland deserves to be a priority, not an afterthought. While others would rather be elsewhere, he’s stayed focused on the people of Cumberland—our families, our workers, and our future. I’m proud to endorse David Trone because he’s always been there for us, and I hope you’ll join me.”

David Trone served Maryland’s 6th District in Congress from 2019-2025. He is running for re-election in Congress to fight Trump and his MAGA agenda, protect our neighbors, bring down skyrocketing healthcare costs, and end the tariffs that are causing prices to keep going up for Maryland families.
