Dark Money MAGA Group Rewards McClain Delaney For Her Votes with Trump, Launching Ad Supporting Her Campaign

Frederick, MD – Today, David Trone’s re-election campaign is calling out April McClain Delaney for accepting the support of a powerful dark money, corporate special interest group with a long history of funding the MAGA Republican agenda.

The American Bankers Association (ABA)—a group that routes hidden, multi-million dollar dark money spending into elections without having to disclose its true donors—launched an ad campaign today designed to prop up McClain Delaney in the Democratic primary. Despite trying to distance herself from her record of voting with Trump 22% of the time, more than any other Maryland Democrat, Delaney is being backed by the exact same group that spent heavily to keep corporate-aligned MAGA Republicans in control of Congress and help Trump pass his “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

The ABA has a deep track record of spending massive amounts of money to elect hardline MAGA Republicans, including:

Beyond backing these MAGA candidates, the ABA aggressively lobbied for and celebrated the passage of Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which gutted billions from Medicaid, hurting millions of working- and middle-class families, just to hand out massive tax breaks to billionaires and Wall Street corporations.

“April McClain Delaney cannot claim to be willing to stand up to Trump and MAGA Republicans when her campaign is bankrolled by a corporate interest group that pours money into electing MAGA Republicans,” said Communications Director Gaby Krevat. “Our communities deserve a representative who answers to them, not undisclosed special interests. Maryland voters will never know who funded April McClain Delaney’s campaign, but they will always know that David Trone has always refused corporate PAC money because his vote isn’t for sale—it belongs to the people of Maryland’s 6th District.”

This ad campaign represents a growing national trend where MAGA-aligned corporate groups use front organizations to meddle in Democratic primaries. By hiding behind dark money groups, these corporations can secretly boost their preferred corporate candidates while keeping the public completely blind to who is actually paying for the ads.
