Frederick, MD – Having voted 22% of the time with Donald Trump so far in her time in Congress, April McClain Delaney is back at it again.
Yesterday, McClain Delaney voted with 211 Republicans and against the majority of House Democrats, Nancy Pelosi, and Hakeem Jeffries to pass the Cashless Bail Reporting Act, which furthers a Trump executive order intended to crack down on progressive jurisdictions that have reformed their bail policies to make them more fair by putting a process in place to “identify Federal funds, including grants and contracts, currently provided to cashless bail jurisdictions… that may be suspended or terminated.”
McClain Delaney’s vote was to create a list of jurisdictions eliminating cash bail, the first step in the Trump administration’s plan to defund them.
“Enough is enough. After voting 22% of the time with Donald Trump, including being the only Maryland Democrat to vote for the Laken Riley Act to expand ICE’s power to detain immigrants even without a conviction and to restrict the rights of transgender servicemembers, now April McClain Delaney is voting with Trump to further his attacks on progressive cities that are leading the way to reform our criminal justice system and make it more fair,” said Communications Director Gaby Krevat. “Marylanders need a leader who will fight back against Donald Trump’s attacks on our communities, not someone who rolls over and votes his way to make it easier for him to defund us.”
In contrast to McClain Delaney’s vote with Trump on the issue, David Trone has long supported making our justice system more fair by ending pretrial detention based on the ability to pay, and previously introduced legislation to support eliminating cash bail.
